PORTAGE | Midwest Family Federal Credit Union awarded two $500 scholarships to college-bound seniors Jeffrey McElfresh and Kassandra Cisarik, both from Portage High School. The students submitted applications boasting countless extra-curricular and volunteer activities in addition to well-written essays detailing their personal finance strategy through age 25. McElfresh plans to attend Purdue West Lafayette to study electrical engineering and Cisarik intends to study biology at IUPUI.
“We received applications from across the county and all were excellent candidates, which presented the seven-member scholarship committee with a daunting challenge to select only two winners.” said John Peterson, CEO/president of the credit union. “However, we all agreed that choosing from such a high quality pool of tomorrow’s leader was a good problem to have.”
“People that use our public coin machine actually fund the scholarship program," said Marketing Director Jan Zurek. "The credit union doesn’t keep the machine’s small fee which is far lower than other coin machines around town. The money earned is returned to our community through this scholarship program.”
