PORTAGE | The Utility Services Board approved the appointment of two city employees to share responsibilities in stormwater management tasks.
Director of Public Works A.J. Monroe said the stormwater coordinator vacancy arose last year when Tony Dixon resigned from the city to take another job.
Monroe told the board that Parks Department Assistant Superintendent Colin Highlands and Public Works Department project manager Sandy McDaniels both have the experience and skills to serve as co-coordinators of stormwater management.
Each would work on with stormwater management issues and regulations in addition to their present tasks, said Monroe.
The board approved the move and additional compensation of $6,000 annually for each to take over the tasks.
Monroe said the switch would be done on a trial basis until the end of the year, but would save the department some $30,000 in salary costs as the full-time position paid $42,000 annually, in addition to benefit costs for a full-time employee.
