PORTAGE | Ten residents submitted letters of interest to fill an open Portage Township School Board vacancy.
School Board Attorney Ken Elwood said the names of the candidates would be made public Monday afternoon during a special work session of the board at 4 p.m. at Myers Elementary School, 3100 Willowdale Road.
The 10 candidates will be interviewed by the four school board members who will choose someone to fill the vacancy left by Bill Fekete's resignation. Fekete resigned April 11 because he was moving from the area.
Elwood said the 10 are from various walks of life, including a police officer, retired Portage school employees, business people and people in education in other school districts.
It is unlikely the school board will appoint the new school board member at its regular meeting, scheduled to convene at 6 p.m. Monday at Myers, he said.
The board has 30 days from Fekete's resignation to appoint a replacement.
