PORTAGE | A Portage woman was arrested Friday night after police said she picked up two boys at the local Little League field and drove away drunk.
Katie Mendoza, 32, of 6713 Silver Cloud Drive, was charged with several counts of driving while intoxicated, including three felony drunken driving charges and two felony counts of child endangerment.
Police were called to the Portage Little League complex just north of Central Avenue about 7 p.m. Friday by a league employee who reported an intoxicated woman driving a vehicle with children inside.
Police stopped Mendoza not far from the field. Inside the car were two boys, ages 8 and 6. The boys were friends of Mendoza's son and she was giving them a ride home from the baseball field.
The father of the boys was contacted and police gave the boys a ride home.
Mendoza denied drinking, but registered 0.21 blood alcohol content, which is more than twice the legal limit. In Indiana, a BAC of 0.08 or greater is considered intoxicated. She was transported to Porter County Jail.
