Youth Basketball League
Registration for boys and girls ages 3 - 12 continues through Sunday. First practice is 10 a.m. Oct. 26 at the Duneland YMCA gym. Season starts Oct. 26 and runs through Dec. 14. The 3- to 9-year-olds practice Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday and a game on Saturday; 10- to 12-year-olds practice on Tuesday, game on Thursday. Cost is $40 for members; $80 for non-members. Multiple child discounts and financial assistance available.
Preseason coach meeting is at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 23. Parents interested in becoming coaches and assistant coaches should plan on attending. We rely on you to volunteer as coaches. We will train you, we only require your desire to work with children in a positive development based sports program.
Fall Festival is from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 19. Bring family and friends to this free costume themed community event. There will be games, prizes, refreshments and activities. There will be hayrides, a costume contest, shake walk, photos with Sparky the Fire Dog, fun in the bounce house and pumpkin decorating.
Dancing Like The Stars
A host of local "celebrities" will vie for top dancing honors to help raise money for the Duneland YMCA Strong Kids Campaign at 6 p.m. Nov. 9. Proceeds from the event will be distributed to qualifying Duneland families in the form of scholarships for programs such as preschool, school aged childcare, sports, memberships and social groups. Luna Mixed Martial Arts is starting a new season at Duneland YMCA on Nov. 5. Classes will meet at 6 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday. Be part of a team and get fit, strong and confident practicing MMA. This class will now offer a ranking system. Participants will be able to learn and practice self defense techniques, boxing and kickboxing, Jiu-jitsu, Kung Fu, Muay Thai and grappling. Cost for the course is $60 per month. For those who register before the start date will receive half off the first months' fee. Participants will also receive a free team t-shirt while supplies last.
Community Wellness Nurse
Porter Regional Hospital will have a Community Wellness Nurse at the Duneland Family YMCA to offer free bone density testing from 8:30-11 a.m. and 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friday.
Parent's Night Out
Parents can utilize the Parent’s Night Out program and stop worrying about finding a sitter, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. every Friday. Trained YMCA staff have organized and fun activities planned to keep each child’s attention. The cost for members is $10 for the first child & $5 for each additional child. The non-member rate is $20 for the first child & $10 for each additional child.

Lil Rug Bugs
This gymnastics-based class for kids ages four to six focuses on body positions, listening skills, balance, coordination, and very basic tumbling skills. Class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15 until 4 p.m. at the Y’s Green Gym Court. Cost is $36 for members and $62 for community. Class runs Oct. 28 to Dec. 15.
Yankee Candle Fundraiser

Halloween at the Y
Ghosts, goblins, games and treats! Join in some family fun from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 19 for Halloween at the Y. Members and residents. Purchase tickets by Oct. 18 at the Y Courtesy Desk for $5. Tickets are also available for purchase at the door on Oct. 19 for $6. There is an additional $2 fee for a food voucher.

Learn about the risk factors and warning signs of heart failure at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 24. Also learn what causes heart failure, what steps you can take to prevent it, and today’s treatment options. 5K Stroller Race
Walk, jog or run with your stroller-aged child on Oct. 18. This fun race is open to Y members and community. Cost is $15 for members and $20 for community.
Please stop by the Y until Oct. 21. and drop off non-perishable food items in the designated container in the Y’s foyer. Help those in the community who struggle to provide meals for their family and make a difference.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

GIVE Day 2013 will benefit kids and the Valparaiso Family YMCA has been chosen to participate. During the 24 hours of GIVE Day, gifts to participating organizations will receive matching funds. Trick or Treat Trail Walk
Enjoy an evening out with the family while getting some exercise from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Enter at the front door of the Y to purchase wristbands. Then go to the outdoor trail, where candy treats will be provided by area business vendors. Wear a costume and bring a flashlight to help you down the trail. YMCA glow-in-the-dark T-shirts will be available for purchase; $5 for Y members; or $10 per family non members.
Parents night out
Let us care for your child while you enjoy time out. Kids ages 5 to 12 will engage in planned activities and movement-based games in the Teen Center. Children will get dinner and often end with a movie. The vent is from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 18. Register by 5 p.m. Oct. 16.

Free running club
The Free Community Running Club is for amateur runners. They meet at 6 p.m. every Tuesday in the YMCA lobby. Membership is not needed. Dress for the weather. All one-hour runs will be outside unless it is lightning or below 15 degrees. Participants will be running three to five miles with calisthenics and stretching. Must be 14 and up to participate. Fun Zone is only available to YMCA members.
