The Duneland Family YMCA will be hosting an open house from noon to 2 p.m. May 18. Those who attend the open house will have an opportunity to tour the facility, learn about member benefits, and enjoy a waived joiner's fee if they become members during the event.
Family Fun Fitness
Family Fun Fitness is offered for parents and their children 6-12 years old each week on Monday and Wednesday at 4:45 p.m. This fitness class gives parents and children a chance to exercise together while taking part in numerous physical activities: hula-hoop, Zumba, Mixed Martial Arts, and games. This class is complimentary with a membership and taught by fitness professionals. Non-members can purchase a daily pass to participate.
Parent's Night Out
Every Friday night from 6 to 9:30 p.m., Parents can utilize the Parent’s Night Out program and stop worrying about finding a sitter. Trained YMCA staff have organized and fun activities planned to keep each child’s attention. From arts and crafts to gym time it is never a dull moment on Friday evenings at the Y. Not to mention, it is affordable! The cost for members is $10 for the first child & $5 for each additional child. The non-member rate is $20 for the first child & $10 for each additional child. Reservations must be made by Thursday of each week.
On Friday evenings, youth in the 6th-8th grade are invited to hang out at the Y from 6 to 9 p.m. There is no cost for members and $3 for others. Whether they want to play a game of pick up dodge ball, dance, or just have a place to talk with your friends the Y is at the disposal of those who attend. Teens can have fun without their parents around; however, parents can have ease of mind knowing their child is in safe hands.
Summer Camp registration is now open for students in the first through 12th grades. Kids will enjoy a summer full of nature, water fun, games, field trips (Dunes National Lakeshore, Railcats, & Fair Oaks), crafts, and new friendships.
Swim Lesson Registration
Swim Lesson Registration is now open. Swimming is a valuable life skill for children at all ages. Every day, children learn the basics of swimming at the Y or enhance their skills with our progressive lessons that turn beginners into experts, polliwogs into sharks. And our kids are having fun, being healthy, learning safety and building confidence all at the same time! Senior Center Activities
There will be a Body Wrap Demo/Party with a handmade jewelry display at 11:45 a.m. Monday. The senior center is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday - Friday and is free and open to the public.

Health & Wellness Seminars
Methodist Hospitals and the Valparaiso Family YMCA will present a seminar on summer sports safety. Learn about the risks, prevention and treatment of common summer sports injuries. The seminar is at 10 a.m. Saturday, presented by Dr. Hiren Italia.
Maintaining Vascular Health – Preventing Stroke: Lifestyle tips for maintaining a healthy vascular system. Learn how to identify the warning signs of a stroke and the importance of timely treatment in patient outcomes at noon Tuesday.

Flower and plant sale

Stand Up Paddle
Paul Sommer will share information on this water sport from noon to 1 p.m. and 1 to 2 p.m. May 18. Members and community welcome. This event is free.
First Tee Golf
Youth learn about the game of golf and life lessons. Program is designed for 7 to 14-year-olds. Session runs from July 15-19 from noon until 2 p.m. Cost is $95 for Y members and $110 for community. Please see the Y Courtesy Desk to register.
Pilates mat work
Core strengthening exercises with a focus on flexibility and posture class meets from 8:05 to 8:50 a.m. Mondays through Fridays; 6:30 to 7:20 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 to 11 a.m. Fridays. All classes are in Studio C.
Pilates personal training

Get ready for some golf on July 25 at the Valparaiso Country Club. This year marks the Valparaiso Family YMCA’s 23rd annual golf outing. Registration and lunch is at 11 a.m with a shotgun start at noon. The cost is $125 per golfer or $500 per team. Funds raised provide affordable sports programs for all kids to learn, grow and thrive.
11th annual Valpo Triathlon
Online registration is now open for the Valpo Triathlon which will take place at 8 a.m. July 13. This race features a ¼-mile swim, a 12.4-mile bike ride, and a 3.2-mile run and is a sanctioned USA Triathlon event. Participants must register by July 10, with a limit of 500 participants (register by June 27 to receive a dry-release wicking shirt). Race fees are $72 for non-USAT members and $60 for USAT members. A spin-a-thon is planned for 8 to 11 a.m. May 18. Spin individually or as a team. The individual with the most pledges wins the grand prize. Register at the Y’s Wellness Desk. All proceeds from this event will help support the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA Program.
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a 12-week program for adult cancer survivors and is offered free at the Valparaiso Family YMCA. It is open to Y members and the community. Program focus includes improving cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength, flexibility, balance, stress management and confidence. Get ready for LIVESTRONG at the YMCA Week May 13-18. This special week will include a healthy bake sale, a Wall of Honor, a Zumba-thon, May 17, and a Spin-a-thon, May 18.
Classes are from 4:55 to 5:25 p.m. and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. This class is for 3- to 11-year-olds and provides activities for children with special needs. The cost is $20 for both Members and Community.
Sports of All Sorts
Kids four-to-six-years-old participate in various sports learning basic skills and having fun. Class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:15 to noon or 2:15 until 3 p.m. Cost is $36 for Members and $62 for Community.

Registration is open for ages 3-8. Weekday practices with games played on Saturday mornings. All practices and games will be held at Real Life Community Church in Portage. League runs from Monday through June 29.

5K Run/Walk Fun Run begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Enjoy a spring morning in the outdoors with others who enjoy group running/walking. Register today. Early registration ends Wednesday in order to guarantee a shirt. Walk-in registration begins at 7:30 a.m.

No Bummer Summer Camp is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 10 to Aug. 16. Before and after camp hours are also available for working parents from as early as 6:30 am to as late as 6 p.m.. Free specialty clinics 3 days a week. Sports of all sorts, Swimmies, Crafty Corner and No Bake Chef.
Free Community Open Swim
Free community open swim is the first Friday of the month at the Portage High School West Pool from 6:15 to 8:45 p.m. for the month of May and June. Children must be accompanied by an adult 18 or over the entire time and must stay with child.
