PORTAGE | The Portage Township YMCA kicked off We Build People, its annual support campaign, with a breakfast Wednesday morning.
Adam Burroughs, campaign chairmen, stressed to the crowd that the campaign is all about the children.
"All the money raised through this campaign goes back into the YMCA and it goes right to our kids," said Burroughs.
Garilee Johnson, a Portage resident and Y member, calls the Y her home.
"We moved here in 2011 and I needed to find a preschool for my daughter and we've been here two years and it's amazing," she said. "We have met friends here and the staff is amazing and our kids love it here."
Dave Kasarda, YMCA executive director, feels blessed to be a part of all this.
"The Y has been blessed with people, with partners and with churches in the community who want to help us," he said.
This year's campaign goal is $70,500 and officials already have $31, 335.
Janice Ryba, St. Mary's Hospital president and CEO, and Scott Marshall, with Real Life Church, presented donations from their groups. St. Mary's donated $4,000 and Real Life Church, $5,000.
