Police arrest man sleeping in van reported stolen
VALPARAISO | Police on Wednesday arrested a Hammond man found sleeping in van, which was reported stolen.
Police were called to 2015 Yorktowne Drive about people sleeping in vehicles.
Police said John Resunenko, 20, of Hammond was asleep in a gold minivan. Resunenko told police he had just purchased the van from a friend’s brother.
But police said the van was reported stolen from a Hammond woman.
Police: Speeder charged with OWI
PORTER TOWNSHIP | A Valparaiso man was arrested and charged with OWI after police said he was driving 85 mph in a 30 mph zone. Steven Hutfilz, 39, told police he was speeding because he was arguing with a passenger in his pickup truck.
Police said he failed a series of field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol content nearly twice the legal limit.
Game system, Jack Daniels bottle reported stolen
PORTAGE TOWNSHIP | A burglary was reported Wednesday at a home in the 300 West block of County Road 875 North. A video game system, a commemorative bottle of Jack Daniels, part of a bed frame and a log splitter were reported stolen.
Bank alerts Chesterton man to fraud
CHESTERTON | A Chesterton man reported that someone used his credit card to place orders via the internet totaling $4,400, including a $100 gift card from Cabela’s. The gift card was delivered to the man’s home. The victim told police he was alerted to the fraud when his bank alerted him to a low balance on one of his accounts.
