Police: Six arrested Saturday at underage drinking party
VALPARAISO | Four adults and two teens were arrested and charged with underage drinking Saturday night.
Police were called about 9:30 p.m. to the 3500 block of Oakgrove Drive where a homeowner told police someone was throwing ice balls at their front door and saw several youths running in the neighborhood.
While investigating, officers found several cars parked at a home in the 3800 block of Oakgrove and saw several people leave from that home.
When police went to investigate at that home, they found several youths in the basement along with beer bottles.
The homeowner allowed police to come in. Police said 11 people -- all under 21 -- were hiding in the basement. Police arrested Nicholas Hathoot, 18, George Kurtz, 19, Collin Jenkins, 18, all of Valparaiso, and James Noble of Cypress, Calif. Two 17-year-old girls were also arrested. All were charged with minor consumption.
Girl, 16, injured in head-on wreck Sunday along Ind. 149
CENTER TOWNSHIP | A 16-year-old girl was injured in a head-on crash early Sunday morning on Ind. 149 near County Road 500 North.
A 22-year-old Valparaiso woman faces drunken driving charges after police said she crossed over the centerline and ran head-on into the SUV driven by the girl.
Police said the SUV ended up in the ditch and caught fire. The girl was able to get out of the SUV. She was suffered a cut in her mouth and complained of pain to her head and neck.
The woman suffered a broken leg and a head injury. Police said she had a blood-alcohol concentration of .09, over the legal limit of .08.
