Police report thefts of metal rooster, swimming pool filter

A swimming pool pump and 4-foot rooster lawn ornament have been reported stolen this week in Porter County.

A resident of the 400 block of Pembroke Road reported Wednesday morning that a swiming pool pump and filter were removed from an above-ground pool.

Also Wednesday, a resident of Boone Grove Road in Center Township reported a 4-foot tall metal rooster lawn ornament was was taken from her yard. The rooster was nailed to log under a tree. It was valued at $600.

 

Assault reported at Chesterton apartment

CHESTERTON | A Chesterton man reported being beaten by four men who broke into his apartment and struck him with a club and shocked him with a Taser.

The 23-year-old man told police Tuesday morning that he answered a knock at the front door and found four men outside. He told them one of the men asked if he was selling marijuana. When he told them no, he went inside and closed the door. He told police the four men then opened the door and came in. He told police one man had a club and another had a Taser. He was able to hide in bathroom and call 911. His roommate said he was struck several times with a club and shocked by the Taser.

The two men said there had been an issue with a girlfriend of a former roommate. Police said another friend had seen that woman in the neighborhood with several men in her car.

The woman told police she had driven the men from Gary to Chesterton so they could visit someone else. She said she had no knowlege of the assault.
