Valpo youth, 13, accused of battering police officer

VALPARAISO | Police arrested a 13-year-old boy Tuesday after his mother reported he was out of parental control.

The teen attempted to break windows and kicked holes in cabinets before police arrived. He threatened to kill the officers who responded to the scene, according to the police report.

When police arrived to the home in the 400 block of South Morgan Boulevard, the teen ran and refused to comply after he was caught. Police placed him in handcuffs. Once handcuffed, the teen kicked a police officer in the legs, back and chest.

The teen was arrested for resisting law enforcement and battery to law enforcement and transported to the Porter County Juvenile Detention Center.

Burglars vandalize home's interior with garden hose

UNION TOWNSHIP | A Union Township called police Tuesday evening after returning home from work to find her bedroom doused with her garden hose.

Police were dispatched at 6:39 p.m. to the home on County Road 600 West, according to the police report. In her statement, the woman said she suspected the intruder used the garden hose to keep her two dogs away while in the house.

Multiple rooms in the house were disturbed. While she initially thought nothing was taken, she reported to police later in the evening that two jewelry boxes were missing from the top of her dresser along with a pillow case. Police have no suspects at this time.
