Police find woman with stolen items
VALPARAISO | A Valparaiso woman was arrested late Friday night after police found her with items taken from three local stores.
Police were called to the corner of Glendale Boulevard and Calumet Avenue for a report of an intoxicated woman.
Police saw the woman drop items in the snow. An officer caught up with her in the parking lot at Walgreens, 1903 Calumet Ave., where she said she was going to get plastic bags, because the bags she had to carry her groceries had ripped.
But police said they questioned the woman and she pulled out a bag of cat food from her jacket, for which she said she had not paid. She also had hair dye, shampoo, canned salmon, a fun paddle, brownie mix and other food items taken from Walgreens, Town and Country Market, 1605 Calumet Ave., and from Strack and Van Til, 2800 Calumet Ave.
Theresa Gains, 45, was arrested on three counts of felony theft.
