Burglaries reported at storage facility

CHESTERTON | Two people reported to Chesterton police that their storage units at Bennett's Storage, 175 E. U.S. 20, had been entered and items removed.

On Friday afternoon, a Michigan City man told police $1,353 worth of tools had been taken from his unit. He said he first noticed items missing on Oct. 27, but didn't report it then because he didn't realize at the time how many items were taken.

On Saturday morning, a Porter man reported to police that $3,920 worth of items, including a pipe threader and four freon containers, were missing from his unit.

Police: Drunken driver caused crash

CHESTERTON | A Hebron man was arrested early Friday evening for allegedly drunk driving and causing an accident in which his passenger received minor injuries.

Thomas G. Grabski, 21, of 1055 S. County Road 575 West, allegedly registered a .32 blood alcohol content, more than four times the legal limit of .08, following the accident.

According to police, Grabski ran a stop sign at County Road 1100 North and 11th Street at approximately 5:50 p.m., lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree.

His passenger, Mark A. Geary, of Portage, received a laceration on his right hand and complained of upper back pain.

Grabski was transported to Porter County Jail after being medically released from a local emergency room.

Eight arrested at underage drinking party

PORTER TOWNSHIP | Eight people were arrested late Saturday night for allegedly participating in an underage drinking party.

Police were called to the 500 West block of County Road 250 South just after 11 p.m. Saturday.

There they found several underage persons consuming alcohol.

Jessica Eldred, 18, of Crown Point, Zachary Slicker, 19, of 662 Windy Meadow Court, Hebron and Alan Espino, 19, of Crown Point, were all charged with minor consumption of alchol and transported to Porter County Jail.

Five other juveniles, including the party's hostess, were also charged with minor consumption and released to adult parents or guardians.

Man charged with striking woman, officer

SOUTH HAVEN  | A South Haven man was arrested Friday night after getting into a fight with a woman and then striking a police officer after she called police.

John Beiswanger, 53, of 744 Imperial Road, was charged with domestic battery, battery of law enforcement, intimidation and resisting law enforcement after the incident which occurred about 11 p.m. Friday at his home.

The woman called police, saying Beiswanger had struck her in the face. When police arrived, Bieswanger allegedly refused to cooperate and during a struggle to handcuff him, struck an officer in the eye with a closed fist.
