Vandals damage residences, vehicles in South Haven area

PORTAGE TOWNSHIP | At least 14 residents in and around South Haven reported damage to their homes and vehicles in a spree of vandalism that included spray-painting and breaking windows.

At least one report described the graffiti as gang-related. Incidents were reported on Plymouth Road, Newport Road, Portland Road, Nome Road, Prescott Road, Pembroke Road and County Road 450 West.

Obscene words, crude drawings and other various symbols were reported.

 

7 parked cars on 2 streets in Valparaiso keyed, cops say

VALPARAISO | Seven vehicles parked on Gleneagles Boulevard and Double Eagle Lane were damaged Saturday night or early Sunday, according to Valparaiso police.

Police said it appeared the vehicles were keyed. Damage ranged from $100 up to $4,500.

 

Valparaiso officers raising money for GREAT program

VALPARAISO | Valparaiso police officers will conduct a fundraiser for the department’s Gang Resistant Education and Training Program.

The GREAT Program is taught to all seventh-graders in Valparaiso schools. The department is celebrating 20 years of presenting the program in Valparaiso schools.

Officers will be working for tips at Kelsey’s Steak House in Valparaiso from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Officers will assist servers, and all proceeds raised will benefit the GREAT Program.
