Extra patrols used to deter home burglaries

The Porter County Sheriff's Department announced Tuesday it is increasing daytime patrols to deter home burglaries that have been taking place across the county.

The department will use the extra patrols through the end of the year in the unincorporated areas of the county.

Residents are encouraged to call the sheriff's department to report suspicious people or vehicles in their neighborhoods.

Christmas decorations reported stolen

UNION TOWNSHIP | Christmas decorations were reported stolen Tuesday from a home in the 100 block of Summerhill Drive.

Police were called about 6 a.m. when the homeowner realized three Christmas wreaths hanging on her garage were taken. Lights that were strung on the wreath were also damaged.

Car trailer taken from Washington Township home

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP | A car trailer was reported stolen Monday from a home in the 400 East block of County Road 100 North.

The owner said he noticed the trailer missing about 6:30 a.m. It was valued at $2,500.
