Family Movie Night

VALPARAISO | The classic movie "ET, the Extra-Terrestrial" will be shown from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the South Haven branch of the Porter County Public Library, 403 W. County Road 700 North. Call (219) 759-4474.

Beginner obedience class

HEBRON | The Dunes Dog Training Club will start their next Beginner Obedience Class from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. at 110 N. Main St. This class is for dogs 6 months of age and older; owners must bring proof of their dog's current vaccinations on  the first night. Dogs should be wearing a metal training collar, attached to a six-foot leather leash. Experienced instructors teach owners how to train their dogs in basic obedience, using food and praise as positive reinforcement only. Cost is $90 for eight weeks. Call (219) 756-7035.

Holiday Break Fun

SOUTH HAVEN | Children kindergarten and older can take a break and have some fun by attending South Haven Public Library's Holiday Break Fun from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at 403 W. County Road 700 North. Watch a Snow Buddies movie and make winter crafts like polar bears and snowmen before heading back to school. Refreshments will be served. Cost is $3. Call (219) 759-4474.

FRIDAY

First Friday Art Walk

MICHIGAN CITY | Visit the Uptown Arts District in historic downtown Michigan City for the First Friday Art Walk every first Friday of the month from 5 to 8 p.m. Businesses in the district stay open late to offer new deals and exhibits to visitors. See the many art galleries' latest exhibits, taste the restaurants' offerings and check out the local businesses. Each stop offers free refreshments for guests. Mix, mingle and enjoy all that downtown Michigan City has to offer. The Uptown Arts District includes 11th Street to the Lake, and Spring to Wabash Street in downtown Michigan City. Basket weaving

PORTAGE | A basket weaving class will be held from 9:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the Portage branch of the Porter County Public Library, 2665 Irving St. class limited to nine people; beginners welcome. Call (219) 763-1508.

'Behold a Pale Horse'

VALPARAISO | The independent film, "Behold a Pale Horse"will be shown at the Valparaiso branch of the Porter County Public Library, 103 Jefferson St. Constitutional scholar, Michael Badnarik from Hammond, appears in this documentary and will hold a discussion after the film. Call (219) 226-3400.
