Free bone density screenings

VALPARAISO | The South Haven library will offer bone density screenings from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 403 W. County Road 700 North. This is a walk-in program. Call (219) 759-4474.

Pantry on the Go

VALPARAISO | Pantry on the Go is from 3 to 5 p.m. at Village Park Enrichment Center at Banta, 605 Beech St. Free grains, fruits, vegetables, dairy and protein on a first-come, first served basis, while supplies last for those needing food assistance. Bring bags or boxes to carry items. This service is available to all Northwest Indiana residents needing assistance. Bring valid proof of Indiana residence (drivers license, state ID, utility bill, etc.) for service. Call (219) 980-1777.


Alzheimer's support group

PORTAGE | Alzheimer's/Dementia Support Group meetings are held for family members and/or friends caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia, beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Rittenhouse Senior Living of Portage, 6235 Sterling Creek Road. The group focuses on providing education and support. Group leaders and members provide emotional support, exchange care giving skills, share information about helpful community services and problem solve together. Historical society meeting

Dinner, seminar on estates

VALPARAISO | Rittenhouse Senior Living of Valparaiso is hosting a spaghetti dinner and estate planning seminar, presented by attorney Jon Costas. Dinner is from 4 to 6 p.m. at 1300 Vale Park Road. The cost is $5 and all proceeds from dinner go to the Alzheimer's Association. The seminar will cover the importance of estate planning and estate planning documents such as power of attorney, health care appointment and living wills. Call (219) 531-2484.

Stamping Card Class at library

PORTAGE | Create special greeting cards with instructor Lisa Uporsky from 10 a.m. to noon at the Portage branch of the Porter County Public Library, 2665 Irving St. Participants will create four cards for $10. Pre-cut materials and cards will be provided; participants will need to bring scissors and tape or glue. Registration is required seven days prior to class date. Pioneer Families reunion

PORTAGE | Portage Community Historical Society will honor early settlers' families with a Summer Festival, Pioneer Families Reunions to celebrate its 25th anniversary from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Countryside Park, 5250 U.S. 6. An Abraham Lincoln impersonator and Faces of Lincoln display will be featured, with hayrides, a fishing derby, a 1929 LaFrance firetruck, musical entertainment, crafts, antique car show, silent auction, Robbins Mansion picture raffle, free children's games, watermelon eating contests, pioneer families displays and museum tours. Food for sale will include hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, pies, ice cream and root beer floats. Call (219) 771-9233.
