Alzheimer's/dementia support group
PORTAGE | Alzheimer's/Dementia Support Group meetings are held for family members and/or friends caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia. The group meets at 6 p.m. at Rittenhouse Senior Living of Portage, 6235 Sterling Creek Road. It focuses on providing education and support. Group leaders and members provide emotional support, exchange care giving skills, share information about helpful community services and problem solve together. Valpo library hosts book sale
VALPARAISO | The Friends of the Valparaiso Public Library will begin its four-day book sale with the Friends Only Preview Sale from 4 to 8 p.m. March 20 at 103 Jefferson St. Current Friends of the Library will be admitted, but patrons can purchase their 2013 membership to the Friends at the door. The public sale will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. March 21, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 22. On March 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. all items will be sold for $2 a bag. Proceeds from the sale are donated to the library and help fund many supplemental and special programming efforts. Call (219) 462-0524.
Career talk
Making a Living as a Writer will be offered to anyone who wants to find out what it's like to write, from experienced writers such as Meggie Tolkland and Neal Litherland. The event is from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. at Valparaiso University's Harre Union. They will be answering questions as well as debunking myths such as how much writers can expect to make, how electronic publishing works (or doesn't work), what people need to get into the field, and all the other questions that budding writers and curious minds have to ask.
