WESTVILLE | Merging Purdue University Calumet and Purdue University North Central campuses continues, but the committee has not yet chosen a new name for the consolidated campuses.

The appointment of Stephen Turner as vice chancellor for Finance and Administration for both campuses effective April 1 represented the first step. The goal of unification is to enable a stronger Purdue presence in Northwest Indiana by streamlining and combining administrative functions and reinvesting the saved resources in academic programs and faculty.

The Unification Committee met Friday at the North Central campus.

Other accomplishments to date include the appointment of Sue Miller as associate vice chancellor for Human Resources and Natalie Connors as director of Career Development and Services. In addition, Vice Chancellors Karen Schmid and Peggy Gerard told committee members that faculty and administrators from both campuses are meeting to get to know one another and to become more familiar with each campus.

Committee members decided to continue research into a new name for the unified university, and discussion of the naming process will remain on the agenda for future meetings.

More details will be shared as minutes of the Unification Committee are finalized and posted to http://www.unifynorthcentralcalumet.org/.
