SATURDAY

Ham and bean supper

HOBART | Trinity United Methodist Church is hosting a ham and bean supper from 4 to 7 p.m. at 3511 Randolph St. The menu includes ham and beans, corn bread, fried potatoes, dessert and drink for $6. Fall Festival/Trunk or Treat

VALPARAISO | First United Methodist Church of Valparaiso will hold its annual Fall Festival/Trunk or Treat from 4 to 7 p.m. at Rogers-Lakewood Park. There will be hayrides, food and crafts. The event is free but bring a dish to share and a bag of candy. Children may wear costumes once the Trick or Treating begins. Call (219) 465-1661.

Alumni Mass and dinner

EAST CHICAGO | St. Mary Church in East Chicago is holding a Mass and dinner to honor longtime and past parishioners, and former students. Mass is at 5 p.m. at the church, 812 W. 144th St.  Dinner will be at 6:30 at Hildebrandt Hall at St. Mary Church, 525 N. Lafayette St., Griffith, because St. Mary in East Chicago does not have a hall big enough to accommodate the crowd. This will be the kickoff event to building the new school. Call (219) 398-2409.

Polish heritage program

MERRILLVILLE | Madame Curie Circle 3134 of the Polish National Alliance, in celebration of Polish Heritage month, will hold a program from 2 to 4 p.m. at Salvatorian Fathers hall, 5755 Pennsylvania St. Paul Odrobina, national vice president of the Polish National Alliance of Chicago, will speak on "Relations between Poland and the United States." The Rev. Steve Kosinski of All Saints Catholic Church in Hammond will discuss "Poland's Economy."

There will also be a slide show presentation on Poland, displays on traditional Polish costumes and arts/crafts and more. Light refreshments will be served. Revival services

Holupky dinner

WHITING | Parishioners of Immaculate Conception Church, Whiting and FCSLA Branch 452 will sponsor a holupky dinner (stuffed cabbage rolls) from noon to 4 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 1723 LaPorte Ave. Dinner will include two holupky, polish sausage, mashed potatoes, green beans, bread, dessert and a beverage. Columbian Ladies meeting

FRIDAY

Spaghetti meal, silent auction

PORTAGE | First Presbyterian Church of Portage will host its annual Spaghetti Dinner/Silent Auction from 4 to 6 p.m. at 6225 Lute Road. The menu will include spaghetti, tossed salad with all the fixings, garlic bread, dessert and beverage. Proceeds to benefit the church's ministry. Cost is $7 for adults. Call (219) 759-1548.

Spooktacular event

HAMMOND | A Spooktacular event includes food, Halloween activities, games and a kid-friendly haunted house from 6 to 9 p.m. at 171st Street, off of Columbia Avenue. Minimal fees apply. Call (219) 844-9027.

Trunk or Treat

MUNSTER | The Columbian Squires of St. Thomas More will be hosting a trunk or treat event from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the church parking lot, 8501 Calumet Ave. There will also be hotdogs, pop and coffee for sale. Funniest, scariest and best decorated cars will compete. Call (219) 614-3743.

Evening with Edgar Allan Poe

CROWN POINT| First United Methodist Church will host storyteller Grant Fitch as he portrays author Edgar Allan Poe. Grant will share many of Poe's most famous stories from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at 352 S. Main St. This event benefits St. Jude House. Advance tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Carriage Court Pizza or online at www.yourhometownevents.com.Tickets are $15 at the door. Helloween Night

EAST CHICAGO | Lighthouse Christian Fellowship of East Chicago will hold its skit production of Helloween Night from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at 3717 Grand Blvd. This is a free, no ticket required, family friendly and all ages event. Call  (219) 801-0919.

Trunk or Treat

PORTAGE | Holy Cross Lutheran Church will host Trunk or Treat Night from 7 to 9 p.m. at 5402 U.S. 6. The comfort dogs, Barnabas, the Dog of Steel, and Prince, the Dark K-9, will be on hand for the festivities which include a bonfire and s'mores. Call (219) 763-6343.

Oct. 28

Polka Mass

STEGER | Tickets for the St. Liborius Church Polka Mass and luncheon are now available. The Polka Mass is at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 28 with Dennis Motyka and the Good Times band.
