St. Stephen Martyr breakfast

MERRILLVILLE | St. Stephen Martyr Church will hold a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at 5920 Waite St. Menu includes eggs, sausage, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, juice, coffee and milk. Memorial Mass

Music recital follows Mass

MUNSTER | St. Paul Episcopal Church will host a music recital following its 10:30 a.m. Mass and coffee hour at 1101 Park Drive. The community is welcome at Mass, coffee hour and the recital. Music will include local instrumentalists, pianists, organists and soloists. Call (219) 838-3803.

Polish Heritage Festival

MICHIGAN CITY | Polish food, exhibits, children's activities and a beer garden await festivalgoers from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at International Friendship Gardens, 2055 E. U.S. 12. A Polish/English Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. featuring the Wesoly Lud Polish folk dance troupe. The EZ Tones polka band will perform from 1 to 4 p.m., and accordionist Steve Kowalczyk also will entertain during the event. Cost is $5 adults and free for kids age 12 and under. Biblical Greek classes

Women in the Word

CHESTERTON | Liberty Bible Church invites all women to attend a Tuesday morning Bible study, Women in the Word. The group will study Pam Gillaspie's overview of the Old Testament, "Cookies on the Lower Shelf." The group will meet from 9 to 10:35 a.m. at 824 N. Calumet. Cost is $25 for the workbook. Coffee Break Bible Study

Dyer Wind Ensemble

DYER | The Dyer Wind Ensemble is accepting new members. All instrumentation and abilities are welcome. Awana Kids Bible Club

HIGHLAND | Children age 3 through grade five are invited to participate in age divided Awana clubs at Suburban Bible Church, 3010 41st St. Children work through a handbook ($10) weekly and memorize scripture. There are games and snacks, lessons, skits and more. Season continues through April 30; clubs do not meet the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. Club shirts range from $10 to $14. Awana program

SCHERERVILLE | Awana is a fun and exciting program where kids learn the Bible from 6:15 to 8 p.m. at Lake Hills Baptist Church, 9209 W. 85th Ave. Each Awana night includes a Game Time where clubbers play fast-moving games that create a spirit of fun team competition around the world-famous Awana circle. Handbook Time gives clubbers an opportunity to achieve, earn rewards and learn God's word through various projects and Scripture memory goals. Council Time includes practical instruction from the Bible about how every boy and girl can become a child of God and grow in their faith. GEMS Girls Club meets

MUNSTER | Munster Church welcomes all first- to eighth-grade girls to its free Girls Everywhere Meeting the Savior. Valpo Greek Fest

VALPARAISO | St. Iakovos Church presents Valpo Greek Fest from 5 to 11 p.m. Sept. 20, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sept. 21 and noon to 7 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Porter County Expo Center. This year the event is all indoors. There will be Greek food and pastries and music. K of C Fish Fry

MUNSTER | Semi-annual fish fry and raffle day hosted by Msgr. Weis Council Knights of Columbus is 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at St. Thomas More Parish cafeteria/gym, 8501 Calumet Ave. Fish fry menu (tickets available at the door) includes fried lake perch, fried shrimp or a combination for $12, beer batter cod for $10 or baked cod for $12. Child portions are available for $6. All meals include fries or macaroni and cheese, a selection of serve-yourself sides (beets, coleslaw, three-bean salad, bread/butter, etc.), and coffee/tea. Soft drinks will be available for purchase. Carryouts available. Raffle tickets are at the door are $1 each or 6 for $5. Prizes are $700, $200 and $100. Gospel concert

Fish fry Fridays

WESTVILLE | Westville United Methodist Church will hold a fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. every Friday at the church, 154 W. Main St. Dinner includes fried or baked pollack or shrimp, french fries or baked potato, coleslaw, bread and drink for $8 or $7 for seniors. A pork tenderloin sandwich, fries and coleslaw is $6.
