Michigan City Yacht Club Sailing School is offering its yearly Youth Sailing Day Camp at Washington Park Marina. This program is for children ages 8 and older and is designed to teach basic boat handling skills and get young sailors comfortable in a boat. Classes are tailored to the age and ability of each student, emphasizing the fun of sailing.

Students are instructed in Optis, Club Rigged 420s, and Catalina Capri 14.2s. As sailors become skilled in boat handling and become comfortable, they will progress to different boats. As skills and comfortability allow, students will be able to sail on their own.

The youth sailing camp offers weekly morning or afternoon sessions starting June 11 and running through Aug. 10. There will be one break, July 23 during the week of the Chicago to Mackinac Races. Classes meet daily, Monday through Friday, except July 4. Classes are morning, 9 a.m. to noon or afternoon, 1 to 4 p.m.

Scholarships are available. Visit www.mcycsailingschool.com or contact Joel Florek, Program Director, at mcycsailingschool@gmail.com or 219-561-0141.
