SOUTH HAVEN | Police expect battery and strangulation charges against a 22-year-old Lake Station man who allegedly smacked a woman with a pork chop and tried to strangle her.

About 4 a.m. Sunday, Porter County sheriff's police were called to a home in the 700 block of Fremont Road on the report of a battery.

A 26-year-old Dyer woman told police she and a group of friends had been out drinking and then went a friend's home.

She said she and one of the men, who is the father of her child, were in the kitchen making pork chops when they began arguing over the child.

The woman said during the exchange, the man reportedly slapped her across the face with a pork chop. She said he then reportedly grabbed her by the throat until she fell to the ground.

Police said when friends called police, the man left the house. He remains at large. Formal charges are pending.
