SOUTH HAVEN | Porter County Sheriff Dave Lain recently donated two emergency call radios for South Haven and Saylor elementary schools.

Lain told the Portage Township School Board this past week that Porter County Councilman Jeremy Rivas, a South Haven resident, brought the need for the radios to his attention.

The radios will allow direct contact between the two schools and Porter County dispatch services in case of an emergency.

The Portage Police Department recently donated similar radios to Portage Township School buildings located within the Portage city limits.

"There is nothing more important than the safety of our children at school," Lain told the school board, adding the radios will allow direct contact as quickly as possible in case of any emergency.
