VALPARAISO | A South Haven man was sentenced Tuesday to one year of home detention and nearly six years of probation after pleading guilty to two counts of possessing child pornography.

Vincent Hix, 49, declined the opportunity to make a statement before Porter Circuit Court Judge Mary Harper approved the sentence.

Hix was arrested at his home Jan. 3 on allegations he used an Internet connection to distribute images and videos depicting child pornography, according to police.

Deputy Prosecutor Cheryl Polarek said Tuesday the sentence provides structure for Hix and a significant amount of probation time to see how he does.
