SOUTH HAVEN | A South Haven man was arrested Saturday night after police found evidence of marijuana being grown in his garage.

Thomas Risk II, 40, was charged with possession of marijuana, dealing marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance.

Police went to his home in the 600 block of McCool Road to check on him after someone reported he made threats to harm himself and others.

Police said no one was inside the home, but an officer spotted fresh footprints in the snow going to the garage.

When police announced their presence at the garage, a light inside was turned off.

Police forced their way inside and found Risk on a mattress.

Police also found a “large quantity” of dried marijuana and several flower pots positioned under fluorescent lights.

Police found a two bowls with a combined 258 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, a plastic grinder and metal smoking pipe.

The Portage Police Department was investigating the complaint that he threatened to kill his wife and himself and burn down his house.
