PORTAGE TOWNSHIP | Authorities say they arrested an intoxicated woman who left a South Haven bar Tuesday night and attacked two teenage girls.
Porter County Sheriff's Department officers were called to a home about 11:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Oxford Road for a physical disturbance.
Investigators said two teenage girls told them Peggy Hollifield, 35, of Portage Township, came home drunk and stumbling. The girls, a relative and her boyfriend's relative, said Hollifield was confrontational, boisterous and "talking crazy."
The girls said when Hollifield fell onto the ground, they attempted to help her up, but she started coming at them.
One of the girls said she was shoved in her chest and thrown into a wall, injuring her left hand, while the other girl said she was pushed by her neck, though she said she didn't think the woman meant to choke her.
Officers said they found Hollifield lying on a bed and when they woke her up, she immediately said she didn't hit anyone.
Hollifield was rude and uncooperative and was taken to a squad car, according to authorities. While en route to Porter County Jail, she reportedly launched into a tirade, cursing and screaming at the officer.
Hollifield faces two felony battery counts.
Earlier that night, authorities were called to Sportsman's Lounge, 381 W. U.S. 6, where employees reported Hollifield was stealing drinks from other patrons.
A friend had apparently taken Hollifield home after that incident and no additional charges were expected.
