SOUTH HAVEN | A South Haven man with a history of arrests was taken into custody Sunday night after telling police he threw rocks at the windows of a local business so that police would take him to jail.
Porter County police were called at 5 p.m. Sunday to the area of Fox River Road and U.S. 6 for a man who ran away from a group home.
An employee of the group home said Donald Begley, 27, had been involved in a disturbance at the home and left the home when he became angry.
According to a police report, an officer found Begley at the Family Express at U.S. 6 and Ind. 149.
According to police, Begley told officers he was so angry that he walked to MTI at 805 N. County Road 330 West and threw several rocks at their window, breaking two panes.
He told police he did this because he wanted to go to jail rather than return to the group home. He said he would "punch everyone in the face" if went back to the "home."
Employees estimated the damage at $3,000.
Begley was taken to Porter County Jail and charged with criminal mischief, a Class D felony.
