SOUTH HAVEN | The South Haven Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a Golf Outing on Aug. 24 at Duck Creek Country Club, 638 N. County Road 700 North, Hobart, to raise money for the creation of an Honor Guard.

Golf Outing details include: four person scramble, $75 per person, 9 a.m. shotgun stqart, 18 holes, golf cart, hot dogs on course and dinner. Golfers can register by emailing Eric at or call (219) 759-3919 or (219) 608-7290. The community can support the event by putting a foursome together and golfing in the event, sponsoring a hole for $50 or making a donation.

"The role of the Honor Guard is to represent and honor fallen firefighters, and to display flags at ceremonies and special events.” said Eric Woods, event chairman. Monies raised will be used to purchase uniforms, flags, and required items for the Honor Guard. “Uniforms are costly, and have been the barrier to creating the honor guard sooner, so we’re planning a series of fundraising events to help us cover those costs.”

The next fundraising event in the series is the Honor Guard Softball Tournament set for Sept. 13-15 at Haven Hollow Park, 330 W. County Road 700 North. Visit to learn more.
