PORTAGE | Lori Wilkie will replace Andy Maletta on the Portage Township Advisory Board.

A caucus of 14 Democrat precinct committee people cast three rounds of votes Thursday night, with Porter County Democrat Chairman Jeff Chidester breaking a tie in the third round of voting.

Billy Coker and Kenneth Gillie had also filed for the seat vacated by Maletta when he was recently appointed to the Portage Township School Board to replace Bill Fekete, who resigned in April.

"Throwing my name in the hat for Portage Township Advisory Board was suggested to me by a couple of friends," Wilkie, director of marketing and development for the city of Portage, said Friday. "I never would have thought of running for a political office until they mentioned that I would be a good fit for the position. I thought it over for a few days, and I became excited at the thought of being even more involved in my community.

"My goal is to keep an open mind and to further my political and social knowledge. (Portage Township Trustee) Brendan Clancy is an inspiring contributor to our community, and I am so excited to work with him."
