A Georgia truck driver was killed Sunday morning in a crash on the Indiana Toll Road between Portage and Chesterton.

Michael P. Hall, 48, of Covington, Ga., was driving a 2014 semitrailer in the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 about 9:30 a.m. when he went off the road for unknown reasons and hit the concrete bridge deck, according to Indiana State Police.

The impact of the crash caused Hall to be thrown from the truck. He was pinned under a box trailer.

Officials extricated Hall. He was taken to Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso, where he died, police said.

The crash temporarily shut down lanes in the area while officials conducted the investigation.
