LIBERTY TOWNSHIP — Two people were seriously injured Wednesday night in a head-on collision on U.S. 6 near County Road 75 West.
According to Porter County Sheriff's police, the accident happened just after 9 p.m. The initial investigation indicates a green 1991 Pontiac Firebird, driven by a 53-year-old Portage resident, was traveling westbound on U.S. 6 when the car began to fishtail and went left of center. The Pontiac slid counterclockwise and struck an eastbound red 2003 Kia Sorento.
The driver of the Firebird is not being identified, police said, pending notification of family. The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car.
The Kia was being driven by Sarah Goodenough, 43, of Portage. She was unable to avoid the collision.
Goodenough and the other driver were transported to Porter Regional Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Firebird was later airlifted to a Chicago-area hospital for internal injuries.
Police are also seeking a warrant for the possible arrest of the driver of the Firebird for felony operating while intoxicated with priors and misdemeanor operating while intoxicated for driving in a manner that endangers a person.
