UNION TOWNSHIP | A Union Township man pleaded guilty Friday to the fatal crash that killed a relative of Valparaiso Mayor Jon Costas.
Joseph Ruwaldt, 20, pled guilty to a Class C Felony of operating a motor vehicle with a controlled substance causing the death of another person, according to prosecutors.
The plea was taken under advisement by the court. A sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 30 before Porter Superior Judge Bill Alexa.
Ruwaldt was charged in connection with killing Costas' brother-in-law Ronald Garry Bradley, 62, while driving high on marijuana.
Police alleged Ruwaldt was driving his pickup truck on County Road 100 North when he struck and killed Bradley while he was jogging last July.
Ruwaldt was taken back to jail in January after testing positive for using synthetic marijuana while on pre-trial release.
Ruwaldt was formally charged in November with eight criminal counts.
