VALPARAISO | A man went directly to jail Saturday after police said a comment about a dog disrupting a board game led to an assault with a wine bottle.

Victor Ramirez II, 21, of Valparaiso, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery.

Police were called about 2:20 a.m. Saturday to the 800 block of Cyrus Street to investigate a reported battery.

Officers said a 21-year-old Wanatah man said he was at a nearby home playing Monopoly with friends when the Ramirez's dog walked on the the game board.

The man said he told Ramirez to remove the dog, which made him angry. According to police Ramirez calmed down, but later went outside to smoke, came back inside, picked up a wine bottle and "clubbed"  the man in the face.

The man said the attack was unprovoked. Police said the man had a swollen left eye and swollen finger. He was taken to Porter Regional Hospital.

According to police, Ramirez admitted he clubbed the man in the face with an empty wine bottle. He also told officers he had consumed a bottle of wine before the incident.
