LIBERTY TOWNSHIP | A Valparaiso-area woman was struck in the face and scratched during a road rage incident about 6 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said.

The woman told investigators she was eastbound on County Road 700 North when she noticed a woman driving erratically behind her, slowing down and speed up within a few feet of her car.

The woman told authorities she waved to signal for the driver to go around her and she could hear the other driver yelling.

At County Road 700 North and Meridian the other driver got out of her vehicle. The woman told investigators she opened her door to tell the other driver to return to her car, and the other driver hit her in the face and continued to punch and scratch her.

The woman said a man in a pickup truck stopped and pulled the other driver away from the woman, who went back to her car and drove away.

Authorities said the other driver was in a red Dodge Avenger. She was a white woman, in her mid-20s, shorter than 5 feet tall and was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.

No suspect was located.
