VALPARAISO | The Canine Country Club is hosting a Bark for Life and Dachshund Derby event June 1 to help support the American Cancer Society.

The day launches with a dog walk and open play from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the derby beginning at 1 p.m. at the club, 3554 Sturdy Road. The event also will include nail trims by Vale Park Animal Hospital staff members, raffles, a silent auction and K-9 sports demonstrations. Pet photographer Paul Thomas will be on hand, and refreshments include Valpo Viennas hot dogs.

Early registration is available by visiting the club during office hours or stopping by Brown Tire of Valparaiso, 2404 Calumet Ave.

According to the American Cancer Society, Bark for Life is an event that offers participants an opportunity to honor the care-giving quality of their K-9 companions while raising funds to help support the American Cancer Society in its life-saving mission.
