Thanks to injury attorney Ken Allen, of the Kenneth J. Allen Law Group, 500 children will be riding their bikes with bike helmets this summer.

Allen donated 500 new bicycle helmets to children in Lake and Porter counties to help insure their safety this summer.

The helmets were distributed at the Merrillville Boys & Girls Club and the Porter County clubs in South Haven, Chesterton, Valparaiso and Portage.

Allen stressed to the Portage and South Haven children how important safety is.

"You need to wear helmets," he said. "It is very important to do that. We need to keep children safe."

Tony Pierson, 10, of South Haven, waited patiently to get his helmet. "I have a few bikes, but I don't have a helmet," he said. "I'm excited to get one."

Ron Ranta, director of the South Haven club, said the youths who got the helmets are those who needed one.

"This was very generous of Mr. Allen" said Ranta. "Things like this donation make events very special here."
