VALPARAISO | A report of a burglary on the city's southwest side Wednesday resulted in the surprise discovery of two and half pounds of marijuana and $10,000 in cash, according to police.
Travis Talley, 22, and Michael Daunora, 24, both of Valparaiso, are charged with B felony burglary, said Valparaiso Police Chief Mike Brickner.
Talley was further charged with possession of marijuana.
The resident of the house in the 800 block of West Street, Joshua Scott, 23, was arrested on felony counts of dealing marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Scott arrived home shortly after 1 p.m. to find a woman sitting in a vehicle in his driveway and his home burglarized, Brickner said.
He contacted police, who after arriving on scene, found two flat screen televisions in the backyard.
Police said they set out in search of the burglars and took Talley and Daunora into custody in the area of Brown Street and Michigan Avenue. Both men reportedly have criminal records.
As police processed the home burglary scene, they found drug paraphernalia and noticed a strong odor of marijuana, Brickner said. A search warrant was obtained and officers discovered the large amount of marijuana in a plastic bucket and the cash in a drawer.
An additional amount of marijuana was found in Scott's vehicle, police said.
