Taltree Arboretum and Gardens will host holiday events every weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The Holiday Lights event held every Friday and Saturday night is a winter celebration of solar power. Taltree’s prairie will come to life at night using solar-powered LED lights and fiber optics. The display begins with luminarias on the mounds and ends with the magnificent Signature Tree all aglow.
Guests can help decorate Taltree’s Wishing Trees, and Santa will be on hand to visit with little ones and dogs. Guests should bring their cameras.
The Polar Express celebration is back Saturdays in December. Guests will enter a wonderland of trains with Taltree’s signature Train Tree and holiday Railway Garden. Event activities include visiting with Santa, story time and refreshments.
“The arboretum’s winter scape is the perfect backdrop to the wonder of this time of year,” said Alexis R. Faust, president and CEO of Taltree Arboretum and Gardens. “Beyond our indoor activities, winter is a fun time to explore the arboretum — spying animal tracks, sledding, building snowmen or cross-country skiing.”
The Holiday Lights start time varies by a few minutes each evening. Holiday Lights is from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 29 and 30, Dec. 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21. Cost for nonmembers is $10 per vehicle (for up to five people). Members get in free.
The Polar Express celebration will be at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Dec. 7, 14 and 21. The cost is $15 for the first child and adult. Each additional child is $10, and each additional adult is $5. Seating is limited. Reservations are required. The program is appropriate for ages 5 to 10. The Railway Garden trains will run when weather permits.
