VALPARAISO | A Center Township man was arrested Tuesday after police said he bit his wife's ear, slammed her hand in a door and choked her and told her, "you're going to die today."

Joseph Lacefield, 30, is charged with domestic battery, strangulation, intimidation, criminal confinement and battery.

Police were called to Porter Regional Hospital where Lacefield's wife told police she had been the victim of domestic violence for a long time, but was reporting it for the first time.

She told police that Lacefield tracks her every move and there are security cameras inside their home. She was even required to video herself taking their children to the bus stop to prove that she is not cheating on him.

Police said when he returned home from work on Monday afternoon he punched her in the head, and when she went for a walk with her kids, he made her get into their car to go along to a local vet clinic, where she said he assaulted her in the parking lot.

Then on Tuesday morning, he pulled her hair and hit her so hard that she would temporarily lose her vision.

She said Lacefield told her she couldn't leave the house and when she attempted to flee from Lacefield he chased her down and slammed her hand in the door as she was trying to leave. He then threw her to the ground, choked her and said, "you're going to die today."

She told police she begged Lacefield to take her to the hospital to have her hand examined and he agreed. He told her not to tell anyone what happened to her.

Lacefield left the hospital but police were able to locate him in Valparaiso through the GPS service on his cellphone.
