VALPARAISO | Tobacco Education & Prevention Coalition for Porter County (TEPC) will recognize coalition members, who in the past year, took the lead to reduce tobacco use and improve the health of Porter County residence. The meeting will be held at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ivy Tech.

TEPC is working to reduce the number of Porter County residents who use tobacco products by supporting effective cessation interventions from local healthcare providers. In the past year, more than 246 Porter County residents have enrolled in the Indiana Tobacco Quitline.

The Indiana Tobacco Quitline (1-800-784-8669) provides free one-on-one cessation coaching over the phone or web to any tobacco user over 13 who wants to quit. Adults receive four coaching sessions, teens receive five coaching sessions, and pregnant women receive 10 sessions. Participants may also receive a series of text messages, unlimited call-in privileges and other support tools as they qualify. Those receiving Medicaid, Medicare, or who are uninsured, may receive two weeks of free nicotine replacement therapy. For help quitting tobacco go to www.quitnowindiana.com.
