VALPARAISO | Douglas Christopher was sentenced Wednesday morning to time already served for child molestation, but the 59-year-old Valparaiso resident will not be walking free anytime soon.
Porter Superior Court Judge Roger Bradford ordered that Christopher be held until he is picked up in a few days by federal authorities on a warrant from Arkansas and a state warrant from California.
It was revealed at his initial hearing that Christopher was on probation out of California for a 1988 offense of cruelty to a child with great bodily injury.
Christopher has served 680 days behind bars in Porter County on a Class C felony count of child molestation stemming from accusations he fondled a girl younger than 14 on three separate occasions.
The girl reportedly told police that on one of the three occasions Christopher offered her $20 each time she indicated he could touch her by saying "green light," as opposed to "red light."
Porter County officials dropped three felony counts of attempting to obstruct justice and three misdemeanor counts of invasion of privacy.
Police said Christopher was recorded telling the mother of the local victim to tell her daughters — one the alleged victim and another a possible witness — that as soon as they were 18, she'd kick them out of her home, unless they changed their stories.
Police said a later conversation centered around the woman's son, also a potential witness in the case.
"Tell (him) he better keep his mouth shut," Christopher could be heard saying on the recordings. "You better get to those girls, too."
