CENTER TOWNSHIP | A Valparaiso-area woman pointed a loaded gun at her boyfriend who then hit her in the face and took the gun away, according to police.

Mallarie Mullen, 28, was arrested Saturday and initially charged with pointing a firearm, a Class D felony.

Police were called about 10:20 p.m. to their home in the 1000 block of Coolwood Drive.

The man told police that he and Mullen had argued and she "wanted her own space," and asked the man to leave. When he refused, she took his gun from the nightstand, loaded it and placed it in the small of his back, according to police.

When the two neared the door of the home, the man turned, grabbed the gun and hit Mullen in the face, according to police.

Police said Mullen ran into the bathroom and the man called police.

Police recovered the weapon.

Mullen was taken to Porter County Jail and was issued a 10-day no contact order.

Seven other weapons in the home were taken by police "for safekeeping," according to the report.
