VALPARAISO | CrossPointe Christian Church will hold a community open house fall festival 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
The church is located at 114 E. U.S. 6.
Tim Wanless is lead minister and is excited about the grand opening of the church.
"We started services a couple of weeks ago but we want to do something special this weekend," Wanless said.
The church started out as First Christian Church of Chesterton in 1959.
"They met in someone's home back then and then moved to a rollerskating rink, purchased a building on Porter Avenue, sold it in 2010 and then temporarily moved to the YMCA," Wanless said. "Then the minister left so they had no building and no minister and attendance dwindled. I was hired in 2011 and we changed the name because I want the church for everyone, not to be inclusive."
Wanless said with the name change and the new building they hope for a fresh start.
"Everything is finally coming together," he said. "God was ready for everything to go as planned."
Wanless said they have about 200 members and there are people from Porter County, Michigan City, Crown Point.
At Saturdays event people can come out and see the new building and meet the staff. There will be food, bounce houses and games.
"It's kind of like a 'welcome us to the neighborhood' event on 17 acres," Wanless said.
On Sunday, the services will be held at 8 a.m. with traditional hymns and at 10:30 a.m. with a contemporary service with keyboards and drums.
"We want to reach out to more people," Wanless said. "This is a great location and we are happy to be out here."
