VALPARAISO | Star Wars characters recently helped Barnes & Noble, 150 Silhavy Road, Suite 120, celebrate Star Wars Reads Day. This initiative takes place in hundreds of bookstores and libraries across the United States.
On October 6, fans from all over Porter, LaPorte and Lake Counties, came together to celebrate reading and the 'Star Wars' movie experience. All events hosted across the country have giveaways and raffles. Select events even have authors and costumed characters on hand from the 501st Legion, the Rebel Legion, the Mandalorian Mercs and the R2 Builders Club.
"Star Wars Reads Day is a great way to have a lot of Star Wars fun with an emphasis on reading," said Michele Gustin-Craig, Valparaiso Barnes and Noble communications director. "This was started by George Lucas and is estimated to have about 1000 events across the country."
Fans of all ages, some dressed in full gear, joined Barnes & Noble in playing games, coloring sheets, answering movie trivia questions and some were just there to meet and greet the characters, which included the King of the Evil Empire himself, Darth Vader.
"I have seen every movie now and my favorite is the last one," said Zach Zaide Thell, 13, Star Wars fan. "It's just fun to be a fan of Star Wars."
