DECATUR, ILL. | Lewis University’s DeLaney McGinley, of Valparaiso, is marking a personal best and top effort for all female throwers at Lewis this year. She recently won the hammer throw (44.85m/147'2") to lead the Flyer women’s track and field team at the Millikin University Big Blue Track and Field Invitational.
Studying to be special education teacher, DeLaney is a two-year recipient of the Brother Delahanty award, which is given to Lewis student-athletes for academic excellence, and she has been on the dean’s list for her freshman and sophomore years.
DeLaney, who is the daughter of Patrick and Teresa McGinley, was a four-year varsity letter winner for Valparaiso High School and helped lead the Valpo team to a pair of Duneland Athletic Conference and Sectional championships as a sophomore and a junior. She qualified for the USA Track and Field National Outdoor Meet in the hammer throw and earned an academic honors diploma.
“As you can imagine, I couldn’t be more proud,” Pat said. “I competed in both basketball and track while I attended Manchester College, so this is special to me.”
