VALPARAISO | Porter County police are investigating an apparent case of racially charged road rage.

Police said a 44-year-old Matteson man reported Tuesday that he was driving east on U.S. 30 about 1:45 p.m. when two white men in a white Chevy pickup truck pull up beside him and began yelling at him and making gestures.

Police said the man, who is black, said the white men were yelling the n-word to him, then one of the men made a gesture like he was pointing a gun at him. The passenger also made a gesture that implied he was putting a noose around his neck.

The men in the white pickup truck then motioned for the man to pull over to fight.

One of the men in the white pickup truck then threw a bottle at the man’s vehicle.

Police said they searched the area, but did not find the white pickup truck.
