Several police departments in Northwest Indiana will take part in the annual Nationwide Prescription Drug Take-Back Day sponsored by The Drug Enforcement Administration.

On Saturday, select police departments in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties will be accepting unwanted prescription drugs between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

In the five previous Take-Back events, DEA in conjunction with state, local, and tribal law enforcement partners have collected more than 2 million pounds of prescription medications were removed from circulation.

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of these medications.
