CROWN POINT | From Broadway in New York City to an exclusive Chicagoland performance, the Miller Beach Arts & Creative District and Mas Media 7 proudly present Ed Asner, recipient of seven Emmy awards and 16 nominations, five Golden Globe awards, and member of the TV Academy Hall of Fame, in his one man show "FDR."
This seasonal night of theater will take place at the newly renovated Pavilion in Miller's Marquette Park, 1 N. Grand Blvd., Gary on March 12 at 7 p.m.
For this extraordinary performance Asner will wheel himself onto the stage in a cane-backed wheelchair with little more than a desk with a paid of flag stands and into the life of four-term president Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
According to reviewer Steve Seigel, "The transformation is startling. Asner's 90-minute solo performance as the 32nd president in 'FDR' is a tour de force of the actor's craft, as intensely physical as it is emotional."
The drama follows the polio-stricken president throughout his four terms in office, from his inauguration through the Depression and the trials of WWII.
"FDR," starting Ed Asner, will continue MBACD's mission to provide art and cultural events as a catalyst for community regeneration, sustainability and an enriched quality of life.
The MBACD needs broad community support to sponsor events of this caliber, and varying sponsorship packages are available. Sponsorships may include: VIP seating, free valet parking and an invitation to meet Asner at the newly remodeled Miller Bakery Cafe on March 11 from 5-8 p.m.
General admission tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the door. Tickets are already on sale and can be purchased online at www.eventbrite.com or at Ayers Realty, 646 S. Lake St. It is asked that you make checks payable to MBACD. This is an intimate theatrical experience, and seating is limited to only 400.
