UNION TOWNSHIP | An unknown amount of money was stolen early Wednesday in the armed robbery of a gas station near the Shorewood Forest neighborhood.
Porter County Sheriff's Department spokesman Cpl. Larry LaFlower said about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, two men, at least one of them armed, entered the Speedway gas station at 473 W. U.S. 30 and demanded money.
The cashier handed over an undetermined amount of cash and the two men fled.
An employee said the first suspect was a black male, around 5 foot 8 inches tall with a thin build. The employee said he was wearing a bulky black hooded coat, dark blue jeans and white shoes and also had a white bandanna covering his face. The suspect also displayed a large black handgun at his waist.
The second suspect is also described as a black male wearing a large black hooded coat and light-colored blue jeans.
It's unknown whether the suspects left on foot or in a car, though store managers and police are reviewing security camera footage.
